Department Summary:

Drake University's Office of Admission is responsible for recruiting and enrolling the university's undergraduate class. Lead by the Dean of Admission, in collaboration with a team of talented professionals, this department recruits future Bulldogs (students, not actual bulldogs) from across the United States.

Job Summary:

The Office of Admission seeks a dynamic individual to join our team as our newest Admission Counselor. The person in this role will manage an assigned recruitment territory and assist in achieving the student recruitment and enrollment objectives for the university. They will represent Drake University to a variety of constituents, including prospective students and their families, school counselors, and more. This position requires regular travel to the assigned recruitment territory in order to attend college fairs, visit high schools, and meet individually with prospective students.

The Admission Counselor will work with students through the entire recruitment process, from inquiry to matriculation. We are looking for someone with outstanding communication skills who thrives on connecting and building relationships with others. This person should have a keen attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a drive to meet established goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Has obtained a Bachelor's Degree

- Has a current driver's license and the ability to be insured by the university's insurance carrier

Preferred Qualifications:

- Outstanding communication skills, especially in regard to writing and presentations

- Experience working in admissions or higher education valued but not required

- Experience working in recruitment or other relationship-based positions valued but not required

Job Duties:

  • 55% - Manage assigned recruitment territory to achieve enrollment goals. Responsibilities include recruitment travel in territory, building relationships with various constituencies in the territory, and report generation. The admission counselor will also assist in the development, promotion, and execution of a variety of admission recruitment events and activities, both in-person and virtually. Additionally, the admission counselor will participate in the evaluation of applications from their territory - (Essential)
  • 15% - Manage communication within assigned recruitment territory. This can include the creation of messaging, receipt and response to phone calls, emails, social media, and other information requests - (Essential)
  • 15% - Meet with prospective students and families during visits to Drake University. These meetings may occur in either individual or group settings - (Essential)
  • 5% - Assist in the development of and participate in activities related to public relations and recruitment of prospective students. In addition, provide an evaluation of admission/marketing plans, policies and strategies - (Essential)
  • 5% - Create standard and ad-hoc reports and queries from admission/registration databases. Use data to make informed decisions about territory - (Essential)
  • 5% - Serve as a key member of the Admissions team in supporting its commitment to Drake’s mission and core values; providing excellent customer service and support to current and prospective students; and helping plan and execute Admission Office events, strategies, trainings, and initiatives. Serve on standing and ad hoc committees, as directed. Perform other duties, as assigned - (Essential)
