Department Summary:

Drake University's Athletics Department competes in the Missouri Valley Conference at the NCAA Division I level. Bulldog student-athletes thrive in the classroom and their respective field of play. Drake Athletics sport programs are considered Des Moines’ Hometown Team.

Job Summary:

The athletics department at Drake University is currently seeking applicants for an Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Development to provide support for the academic and personal development of all student-athletes.

This position reports directly to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Excellence.

All of the essential job duties assigned to his position require an understanding of and compliance with the rules of the NCAA, the Missouri Valley Conference, and Drake University.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Baccalaureate Degree – knowledge of specialized principles or techniques normally obtained through a four-year college/university academic program or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program directly related to the type of work being performed
• 2 years of experience in the field; OR any equivalent combination of education and experiences where comparable skills have been acquired
• The ability to work nights, weekends, and travel periodically

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Experience in guiding student-athletes in their academic pursuits, monitoring progress toward degree and continuing eligibility, and program coordination

Job Duties:

45% - Manage academic support and continuing eligibility of student-athletes on designated teams in consultation with the Senior Associate Athletics Director. - (Essential)

30% - Design and implement Bulldog Way Life Skills programming. - (Essential)

15% - Prepare and distribute communications to athletics staff and other partners, as assigned. - (Essential)

5% - Co-advise the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. - (Essential)

5% - Refer student-athletes to campus resources, and perform other duties, as assigned. - (Essential)
