Department Summary:

The Office of Finance includes Student Accounts, Accounting/Accounts Payable/Procurement, Budgeting, Endowment, and Finance functions, along with the Financial Aid Office.

Job Summary:

The Budget Director provides oversight, support, and direction for the University budget. The Budget Director works closely with the CFO and University leadership in establishing the annual budget, monitoring budget to actual activity during the year, developing projections of year end and future operating budget results, and reporting on the operating budget. The Budget Director also works closely with unit leaders and budget/officer managers related to their budgets.

The Budget Director reports to the University’s CFO. The Budget Director serves as one of five members of the Finance leadership team that provides oversight and strategic direction to the Finance staff. The Budget Director is expected to support the University Continuous Improvement Plan initiatives and live out the University Core Values.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, finance, or management
  • Exceptional Microsoft Excel and general computer skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong data management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Ellucian's Banner or similar ERP systems
  • Knowledge of accounting principles

Job Duties:

  • 30% - Develop, compile, communicate, summarize, and maintain the annual budget data in spreadsheets and the University ERP system that is submitted to senior management and Board of Trustees for approval. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Provide management and financial analysis summary reports on the university budget on a monthly/quarterly basis to Chief Financial Officer. Prepare ad hoc reports and data analysis as requested. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Coordinate with President’s Council, Deans, Directors, and Budget/Office Managers on budget development, budget projections, and budget analysis. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Develop, implement, and maintain systems for management reporting, financial planning, forecasting, projections, and cost analysis. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Coordinate with the Human Resources Office on all activities related to position control and salary planner process. Monitor and review salary compensation requests as it relates to overall budget. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Serve on the Finance leadership team with the CFO, Controller, Assistant Treasurer, and Financial Aid Director. Actively participate in Finance strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Identify, develop, and implement ongoing improvements and enhancements to the budgetary planning, administration, control, and related business processes, as appropriate. - (Essential)
  • Perform other duties as assigned - (Essential)
