Department Summary:

Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences ( http://www.drake.edu/cphs/ ) is excited to launch a search for a full-time, Assistant Director of Student Affairs. This position represents an excellent opportunity for an outstanding individual to join our team that supports our innovative healthcare degree programs. Reporting to the Director of Student Affairs and collaborating with college administrators and student services staff, the Assistant Director will implement and maintain initiatives to support student academic success, degree planning, faculty academic advising and mentoring development, student leadership programming, and professional program orientation activities. In addition, the Assistant Director will focus on student retention efforts within the college and at Drake University by implementing and supporting programming designed to foster student engagement and a sense of belonging and community.

Job Summary:

To thrive in this role, the individual will have strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and develop positive, helpful, cooperative working relationships to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students. The successful candidate will demonstrate collaborative skills to implement initiatives to support students and the organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through on tasks to completion. They will also have the initiative and ability to work independently while thriving in a setting requiring collaboration and teamwork for maximal efficiency and effectiveness. Maintenance of confidential information is also required.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in an education or student affairs field, along with demonstrated education, or knowledge and experience, related to the higher education. Competency with Microsoft Office software is required. Experience working in student services in a higher education setting for a minimum of two years is strongly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in an education or student affairs field

- Demonstrated knowledge and experience related to higher education

- Competency with Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) or more years of related experience is preferred.

Job Duties:

  • 35% - Provide support for CPHS blended advising model through academic planning, course registration, monitoring progress towards degree completion, student retention, and other student welfare support services to CPHS students.
  • 20% - Facilitate CPHS student transition activities (e.g., first-year orientation, Welcome Week, CPHS student orientation), in collaboration with the Director of Student Affairs and the Office of New Student Programs.
  • 10% - Assist with CPHS faculty and staff advising development activities, specifically individual faculty and staff support related to advising and student services. 
  • 10% - Provide support and guidance for the CPHS Student Leadership Development Series, student organizations, and Health Professions Day committee. 
  • 10% - Ensure the accuracy of curriculums, handbooks, degree audits, the catalog, and other college policies. Support the CPHS Compliance Manager in managing CPHS student records operations.
  • 5% - Represent CPHS student affairs interests on college and university committees (e.g., Advising Council, CPHS Student Affairs Committee, and other groups as needed). 
  • 5% - Teach up to three (3) credit hours of CPHS student success coursework per year. 
  • 5% - Perform other duties as assigned.
