Department Summary:

Drake University Public Safety serves a vital role in creating a vibrant, welcoming learning community for all Drake students, employees, and visitors. Drake's Department of Public Safety is the main provider of emergency services and is committed to maintaining a safe campus environment for campus.

With Public Safety staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our Department is committed to being active role-models for both students and employees and developing positive community relations with Des Moines Police Department, the Drake neighborhood, and other organizations.

Job Summary:

Drake University Public Safety is currently seeking new public safety officers to join our great team. Presently, we are seeking to fill a Public Safety Officer position to work the hours of 11:30 pm - 7:30 am. In this role, you will contribute to the safety of the university by patrolling the campus, providing assistance in conflict resolution and assisting in safety prevention efforts. The position will require the candidate to work weekends and holidays.

Our Public Safety Officers serve an important role in the safety of people, the security of property, creating a welcoming culture, and also assuring compliance with policies and applicable laws. Public Safety Officers serve as a responsible employee/Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Act. To help foster a great campus community, all Public Safety Officers are expected lead by example and actively embody Drake's Core Values.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A sincere interest in helping others and collaborating with colleagues
• High School Diploma/ GED
• Written / verbal communication skills
• Ability to follow verbal / written instructions
• Basic computer skills
• A valid Iowa driver's license and ability to meet insurability requirements is required to drive on behalf of the university
• Post offer, pre-employment drug screen required

For faculty positions, selection will depend on the receipt of recommendation confirming the candidate's scholarly achievements and teaching abilities and/or on the candidate's satisfactory passing of a teaching demonstration if selected for an on-campus interview. For staff positions, selection will depend upon careful review of each applicant’s references, education, and, if applicable, experience.
