Department Summary:

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is housed within the College of Arts & Sciences, the largest academic unit at Drake University. The department offers programs in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Quantitative Economics, and Cybersecurity. The department is committed to providing students with a strong foundation in both technical knowledge and the broader societal context in which technology operates.

Job Summary:

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and Philosophy and Religions, seeks an adjunct instructor to teach a course in Digital Ethics in the Fall 2026 semester. The Digital Ethics course is targeted at both students in technology majors as well as students interested in using the course to fulfill their Values and Ethics general education requirement. Students in the course read, discuss, and write about ethical and social implications of emerging digital technologies including artificial intelligence, data privacy, algorithms, social media, cybersecurity, and intellectual property. Application of ethical frameworks to these areas is also considered.

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters degree or higher in computer science, philosophy, law, public policy, information systems, or related disciplines who can engage students in thoughtful discussion of the ethical challenges posed by modern technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in computer science, philosophy, law, public policy, information systems, or related disciplines who can engage students in thoughtful discussion of the ethical challenges posed by modern technology.
