Department Summary:

Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (CPHS) (http://www.drake.edu/cphs/) is excited to launch a search for a full-time, Director of Student Affairs. This position represents an excellent opportunity for an outstanding individual to join our innovative healthcare degree programs.

Job Summary:

In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the Director will lead and manage initiatives to support student academic success, retention, degree planning, faculty academic advising and mentoring, student leadership programming, and professional program orientation activities. In addition, the Director will supervise the CPHS Assistant Director of Student Affairs and the CPHS Compliance Manager.

To thrive in this role the individual will have strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, and students in a positive, helpful, and cooperative working relationship. The successful candidate will have visionary skills to develop and lead new initiatives to support students, leadership and management skills that foster engagement and success among direct reports, and the organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through on assignments to completion. They will also have the initiative and ability to work independently while thriving in a setting requiring collaboration and teamwork for maximal efficiency and effectiveness. Maintenance of confidential information is also required.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in an education or student affairs field, along with demonstrated education, or knowledge and experience related to higher education.

-Competency with Microsoft Office software is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in student services in a higher education setting for a minimum of three years is preferred.

Job Duties:

  • 30% - Manage the provision of academic planning, course registration, progress towards degree completion, retention initiatives, and other student welfare services to CPHS students. Support the CPHS Compliance Manager in managing CPHS student records operations and ensure the accuracy of curriculums, handbooks, degree audits, the catalog, and other college policies. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Lead the coordination of CPHS faculty mentoring development activities, including but not limited to, mentoring development meetings, regular communications related to mentoring, collaboration with department chairs to make faculty mentoring assignments, and individual faculty support related to mentoring. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Provide supervision and mentorship to the CPHS Assistant Director of Student Affairs and to the CPHS Compliance Manager. - (Essential)
  • 15% - In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Student affairs, lead and manage student leadership opportunities including, but not limited to, college student leadership development programming, annual student leadership events (e.g., CPHS Health Professions Day) and student organization supervision and advising. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Support the execution of CPHS student transition activities (e.g., first-year orientation, Welcome Weekend, professional student orientation), in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Student Affairs and the Office of New Student Programs. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Represent CPHS student affairs interests on college and university committees (e.g., CAAD, CPHS Student Affairs Committee, and other groups as needed). - (Essential)
  • 5% - Teach up to three 2-credit hour CPHS student success courses per year - (Essential)
  • 5% - Perform other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
