Salary: Hourly starting wage is between $16.45 and $16.75 per hour. 

Department Summary:

The mission of Drake Public Safety is to provide a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and campus visitors. Drake Public Safety strives to achieve this mission through a community friendly approach that enhances safety through the visibility of Public Safety personnel, preventive patrols, 24-hour accessibility, positive conflict resolution, and crime prevention and awareness programs. Drake Public Safety collaborates with local law enforcement and community organizations in fulfilling its mission.

In addition to their role in keeping the campus community safe, Drake Public Safety officers also are trained to assist in medical emergencies and have access to portable defibrillators for use in emergency situations.

Job Summary:

rake Public Safety Officers play a vital role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive campus environment. In this position, officers provide proactive patrols by foot, vehicle, and bicycle; respond to calls for service; and assist with a wide range of safety‑related situations, including medical emergencies, policy violations, and community concerns. Officers are committed to excellent customer service and support the University’s mission by helping ensure a secure environment for learning, living, and working.

Public Safety Officers build strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors by offering safety education, conducting escorts, and supporting campus events. They collaborate closely with local law enforcement and emergency responders, document incidents accurately, and communicate relevant safety information to campus partners. This position is ideal for individuals who value teamwork, problem‑solving, and community engagement in a service‑oriented public safety setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma and one to two years of Public safety or customer service experience. Current driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications:

College Degree (Associate or bachelors) and 3-5 years experience.

Job Duties:

  • 40% - Conduct proactive patrols of campus properties by foot, vehicle, and bicycle to promote a safe and secure environment. 
  • 20% - Respond promptly and professionally to calls for service, including medical incidents, safety concerns, disturbances, and emergency situations.
  • 15% - Enforce University policies and support compliance with campus regulations while emphasizing education and respectful engagement.
  • 10% - Provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors, serving as a visible and approachable safety resource. 
  • 5% - Complete clear, accurate, and timely incident reports and documentation in accordance with departmental procedures. 
  • 5% - Assist with campus events, including crowd management, traffic control, and logistical support. 
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned. 

Salary and Benefits:
