Department Summary:
Come join the Drake Facilities team! We are seeking a competent, trustworthy and reliable person to serve as Electrician. This is a position with continuous on-the-job training and opportunities for growth and development.
Job Summary:
Under the direct or indirect supervision from the Associate Director of Facilities and Chief Electrician, the Electrician will perform installation and skilled maintenance, service and repairs on diverse and complex electric equipment and accessories as required for the cost-effective operation of Drake University.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completed 3 years continuous experience as a licensed journeyman electrician and either presently holds a State of Iowa Journeyman Electricians license or can acquire such license.
- Knowledge and ability to utilize tools and diagnostic equipment of the electrical trade associated with construction and to perform repairs and maintenance.
- Ability to work from scaffolding, ladders, etc. and work in closed spaces.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints as well as printed and verbal instructions.
- Ability to operate aerial boom lift and man lift.
- Available for emergency call-in.
- Valid driver's license, good driving record and insurable by Drake University.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional vocational training in specialized electrical and/or electrical maintenance, voice and data preferred.
Job Duties:
- 40% - Performs typical electrical maintenance functions pertinent to a university. This includes replacing receptacles, ballasts, lamps, lighting devices, contactors, relays, protective devices, and equipment. - (Essential)
- 20% - Performs electrical work relative to remodeling and renovation. This includes, but is not limited to, circuit construction and relocations, meter settings and protective devices, controls and energy saving lighting modifications as well as class 2 circuits and voice/data installations. - (Essential)
- 5% - Must be able to set priorities as well as keep the manager informed as to the status of work in progress. - (Essential)
- 5% - Diagnoses and repairs electrical malfunctions in equipment and controls. - (Essential)
- 5% - Assists manager in emergency situations, such as flooding, breakdown affecting operations, disruption of utilities, fire, etc. - (Essential)
- 5% - Provides information to the manager regarding areas which need improvement and may assist in preparation of estimates and the ordering of materials for electrical repairs and/or construction. - (Essential)
- 5% - Performs assigned duties in a competent, courteous, and professional manner and as directed by the manager. - (Essential)
- 5% - Can work overtime as necessary for various requirements and events, which may include holidays and weekends. - (Essential)
- 5% - Performs other duties as assigned which may not necessarily be electrically related. - (Essential)
- 5% - Interacts with department personnel, Drake faculty, staff, and students. - (Essential)
