Drake University's Athletics Department competes in the Missouri Valley Conference at the NCAA Division I level. Bulldog student-athletes thrive in the classroom and their respective field of play. Drake Athletics sport programs are considered Des Moines’ Hometown Team.

Job Summary:
Drake University is seeking a Head Men’s Basketball Coach to join its athletics department. The successful candidate will support a positive academic, athletic, and social environment for student-athletes while creating a culture of excellence and ethics. Prior college coaching experience is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Knowledge of applicable NCAA Rules and regulations.
• Knowledge and basic proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Proficiency to produce scouting reports, recruiting evaluations, and complete work within deadlines.
• Ability to develop and sustain relationships with prospective student-athletes, parents, and coaches.
• Skills to help student-athletes improve through training/coaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience playing at the collegiate level preferred.
• Coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level preferred.
• Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
Job Duties:
- 20% - All job duties described below require understanding and compliance within the rules of the NCAA, Missouri Valley Conference, and Drake University. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: Design and implement effective training programs, practices, and game plans that maximize player development and team performance. - (Essential)
- 20% - Support a positive academic, athletic, and social environment for student-athletes within the Men’s Basketball program, creating a culture of excellence and ethics. - (Essential)
- 20% - Recruit and retain student-athletes who thrive at Drake and on the court. - (Essential)
- 15% - Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and other staff as assigned. Direct and coordinate activities of the assistant coaches in the planning, organizing, and coaching of the team. - (Essential)
- 10% - Actively engage with alumni and the community to enhance program support and visibility. - (Essential)
- 5% - Organize a competitive D1 schedule in compliance with Missouri Valley scheduling policies. - (Essential)
- 5% - Manage the program's operational budget, including travel and equipment. - (Essential)
- 5% - Demonstrate appropriate communication related to internal (coaching staff, student-athletes, athletics staff) and external (fans, parents, alumni, prospects, campus community, etc.) - (Essential)
- 0% - Performs other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt (salaried) position.
