Department Summary:

Drake University's Athletics Department competes in the Missouri Valley Conference at the NCAA Division I level. Drake men’s tennis is a member of The Summit League. They were back-to-back conference champions in 2022 and 2023. The men’s tennis program has a storied history of winning team championships and individual accolades across generations of Bulldog student-athletes.

Job Summary:

Drake University is hiring a Head Coach for Men's Tennis. This position is responsible for overseeing all duties associated with the tennis program including the hiring and supervision of a full-time assistant coach.

The Head Coach will develop and execute effective practice and game plans. Coach is expected to provide feedback to student-athletes on technique and skill development while contributing to a positive academic, athletic, and social environment for all team members. This position will lead the effort to recruit, develop and retain talented student-athletes that can be successful in their academic and athletic endeavors.

The Head Coach will manage and oversee administrative duties including but not limited to: NCAA and Drake compliance processes, scholarship and operating budgets, team travel, equipment and apparel, scheduling and business paperwork. Effective and timely communication with student-athletes, coaches, staff, administrators and other relevant parties is expected.

This job requires an understanding of and compliance with the rules of the NCAA, the Missouri Valley Conference, The Summit League, and Drake University.

Qualifications:

• Baccalaureate Degree, required
• 5-7 years prior coaching experience, preferred
• Prior coaching experience, preferred
• Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain high quality student-athletes from diverse backgrounds, preferred
• Effective communication skills and ability to interact with a wide variety of constituents, preferred

Job Duties:

20% - Recruit and retain talented student-athletes who thrive in a competitive athletic and academic atmosphere at Drake - Des Moines' Hometown Team. - (Essential)

20% - Develop and implement effective practice plans while working in collaboration with athletic training and strength and conditioning for peak performance. - (Essential)

15% - Organize competitive schedules in order to compete for conference championships. - (Essential)

15% - Adhere to budget parameters, cultivate alumni relations and donor development programming. - (Essential)

15% - Provide leadership and a positive academic, athletic, and social environment to student-athletes within your program. - (Essential)

10% - Hire and supervise a full-time assistant coach. - (Essential)

5% - Operate within NCAA, Missouri Valley Conference, and Drake University compliance regulations. Perform other duties, as assigned. - (Essential)
