Department Summary:

Drake University Public Safety is the main provider of emergency services and is committed to maintaining a safe campus environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors. With staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Public Safety staff is committed to being active role-models for both students, employees and developing positive community relations with the Des Moines Police Department as well as other organizations.

Job Summary:

Drake University Public Safety is seeking qualified, professional and reliable candidates for a part-time evening bus driver. This responsible person will provide transportation for the Drake students, faculty, staff and visitors on the designated bus route around campus. The interested candidate should be able to work Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8:00 pm - 1:00 am. The successful candidate should be able to perform all the essential job functions and meet the minimum education and experience requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Customer Service Experience

* Driving Experience

* Valid Driver's License with ability to drive a 15 passenger vehicle

Preferred Qualifications:

* Previous bus driving experience a plus

Job Duties:

  • 50% - Operate a 15 passenger bus, obeying all applicable traffic laws and the rules / regulations of Drake University. Provide transportation for Drake students, faculty, staff and visitors including persons with disabilities. Candidate will be responsible and required to load and secure wheelchairs for ADA passengers. Guarantee safe loading and unloading of all passengers. - (Essential)
  • 30% - Provide high quality customer service. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Perform related clerical tasks, (i.e. time sheets, mileage and fuel sheets, complete reconciliation forms, driver dispatch sheets, etc.) - (Essential)
  • 10% - Conduct pre- and post-vehicle checks and maintain bus cleanliness - (Essential)
