Department Summary:

The Department of Music is a unit of the Drake University School of Fine Arts and a visible musical resource for the community and region.

Housed within Drake's College of Arts & Sciences, the Department's mission is to provide a center for the study and understanding of music that develops students’ intellectual, practical, and expressive abilities by emphasizing professional preparation, collaborative learning, critical thinking, and musical communication.

Job Summary:

The Department of Music is excited to launch a search for a part-time Teaching Artist of Flute, beginning January 2025. Teaching duties assigned, commensurate with the candidate's expertise to include Studio Flute with a weekly flute studio class, which consists of undergraduate music majors, music minors, and non-major participants. Other duties include weekly chamber music (flute choir) coaching, attending woodwind juries and collaborating with the Wind/Percussion Area.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree or Artist's diploma at Graduate level required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with an active profile within their professional organization (i.e., NFA) and an ability to teach and connect with a diverse student population. The successful candidate will be a team player who demonstrates a commitment to the ongoing growth and excellence of the studio flute, band, and orchestra programs.

For faculty positions, selection will depend on the receipt of recommendation confirming the candidate's scholarly achievements and teaching abilities and/or on the candidate's satisfactory passing of a teaching demonstration if selected for an on-campus interview. For staff positions, selection will depend upon careful review of each applicant’s references, education, and, if applicable, experience.
