The Department of Music is a unit of the Drake University School of Fine Arts and a visible musical resource for the community and region.

Housed within Drake's College of Arts & Sciences, the Department's mission is to provide a center for the study and understanding of music that develops students’ intellectual, practical, and expressive abilities by emphasizing professional preparation, collaborative learning, critical thinking, and musical communication.

Job Summary:

Drake University invites candidates interested and experienced in teaching jazz ensemble (Drake Jazz Ensemble II) to undergraduate music majors, minors, and non-major participants; other duties (MUS 146 – Techniques in Jazz Performance – Spring 2025) possible depending on the candidate’s expertise.

This is a part-time adjunct position, with 3-5 hours of weekly teaching. Drake Jazz Ensemble II meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 PM – 3:20 PM in the fall semester, and M/W/F 12:00-12:50 PM in the spring semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree preferred or commensurate experience.
